		<description>Early in my career, the understanding that program officers are careerists (just like many people including NPO employees)was helpful to me.  Not that this is wrong, but PO&#039;s try to build expertise in program areas and then expand budgets in those areas so they become more important within the foundation.  They may also be demonstrating expertise to make them attractive to other foundations.

Sometimes the grantseeker can intuit these career ambitions and respond appropriately.
